Student route essentials: Time limits on study (for Higher Education Providers with a Track Record of Compliance)

We invite you to join two members of UKCISA’s Advice and Training team in a 2.5 hour participative online session.

This session is aimed at delegates working at a Higher Education Provider with a Track Record of Compliance who have some basic knowledge of the Student immigration route and want to further understand the Rules and guidance relating to the time limits within the route. The session will also consider the application of these Rules and guidance in case studies.

Aim and objectives:

This webinar will help you to consider when and how time limits apply to students studying under the Student route with Higher Education Providers with a Track Record of Compliance and how these time limits are calculated.

In order to achieve this aim, we will:

  • Identify relevant sources concerning time limits in the Student route
  • Know when time limits apply, and when they don’t (including courses that are exempt)
  • Know what time is included in time limits
  • Know how to calculate time that counts towards time limits
  • Consider options for those who have gone beyond the time limits and when the Home Office may exercise discretion

We will not have time to discuss areas of immigration law other than the time limits for Student route applicants. This means we will not be considering other Student route requirements or different immigration routes, such as Child Student, Short-term student and Visitors. These areas are covered in detail in other UKCISA courses or in our manual.

This course can be taken as a stand-alone course or in conjunction with some of our related courses, which will expand on other requirements such as academic progression and financial requirements. Those who want to gain a basic knowledge of the Student route may be interested in attending our course on ‘Introduction to the Student route’.

To support this course we will be introducing the use of Padlet for delegates to access and use. Padlet is an online collaboration tool, much like an online notice board, where tutors and delegates can post text, video files, images etc.

Tutors will use this space to share slides that support our online training, provide a networking space for delegates who attend the training and to follow-up on any questions that tutors take away during the training.

We look forward to using this as an additional way to engage with our attendees, and we encourage you to use this to connect with other UKCISA members. Further information on how to use Padlet will be provided alongside the joining instructions to this training.
