Fundamental principles of EU law

This course aims to give participants an understanding of the law governing the free movement of European Economic Area (EEA) nationals, particularly students and their family members.


By the end of the course, participants will be able to:

  • identify who can be a ‘qualified’ person
  • identify when documentation may be required and the issues that might arise from this
  • understand the consequences for students when their country joins the EU
  • understand responsibilities for institutions with EEA students
  • identify when there might be an erroneous refusal of student support and how to challenge such refusals
