Regulations on fee status for European students starting courses in England in Autumn 2021

09 February 2021
The Department for Education in England has now issued the fees and Student Support regulations that will determine who is entitled to be treated as a ‘home’ student for higher education courses in England that start from 1 August 2021 onwards. The regulations are long and complex, and it has not issued any guidance yet on how to apply the regulations.

UKCISA is currently busy analysing the regulations. As you are probably aware, these are the biggest changes made in many years and we appreciate your patience while we do this. When our analysis is ready, we will publicise it on the UKCISA newswall. If you wish to read the regulations yourself in the meantime, they are The Education (Student Fees, Awards and Support) (Amendment) Regulations 2021 (S.I. 2021 No.127).

If you are a student, you will need to be patient with your institution. They will probably not be able to deal with any enquiries from you about how the regulation changes affect you for a few weeks.

If you work in an institution, you might like to know that UKCISA will be delivering training on these regulations and their impact on fees assessments. We will release further details about that training soon.
