Persons granted leave under Ukraine Schemes: ‘home’ fees for HE in Wales

31 May 2022

Update of 22 July 2022: Please read the 22 July 2022 story 'Ukraine protection' category for 'home' fees for HE in Wales for an update on this story.

The Welsh Government makes the regulations that decide who is entitled to pay fees at the ‘home’ rate in Wales (UKCISA does not make the regulations). The Welsh Government announced in a Written Statement from the Minister for Education and Welsh Language on 25 May 2022 that it will be introducing a new category of person who will be entitled to pay fees at the ‘home’ rate, and receive Student Support: ‘Persons granted leave under the Ukraine Schemes’.

The category will be for persons granted leave under the Ukraine Family Scheme, the Homes for Ukraine Sponsorship Scheme or the Ukraine Extension Scheme. There will be other requirements too, which could possibly mean some people in these groups don’t benefit, but we won’t know what they are until the Welsh Government issues regulations in July. It is not until you can read through all the detailed requirements set out in the regulations that you will know whether or not you qualify.

The category will exist from 1 August 2022.

We will update this story when the regulations are issued, so you can read the precise requirements and find out whether you qualify.
