The Government has confirmed that biometric residence permits (BRPs) and EU Settlement Scheme biometric residence cards (BRCs) that expired on, or after, 31 December 2024 will continue to be acceptable as valid evidence of permission to travel until up to and including 1 June 2025. This is an extension of two months from an earlier extended deadline of 31 March 2025, which we alerted you to in a news item on 5 December 2024 and which benefited those travelling over Christmas.
The Government issued its latest update, which relates to the rollout of eVisas, in a ministerial statement on 27 February. It follows continued analysis by the Government of how many visa holders have been able to fully set-up a UKVI account and access their eVisa. In December, the Government had stated it would keep extended use of BRPs and BRCs under review. However, in this new statement it is clearer about the planned end of this extension, stating: “From the 2 June 2025, expired BRPs and EUSS BRCs will no longer be acceptable for evidencing immigration status when travelling to the UK”.
