Everyone has the right to live and study in safety. We continue to see horrific acts of violence driven by racism, Islamophobia and xenophobia in towns and cities across the UK. There is no place in our society for violence or hate, and we recognise how distressing this is for international students and those who work with them.
If you are a student, please reach out to friends and family. Get in touch with your students’ unions and university advice teams. You can access support 24 hours a day via text from Student Space. Our student advice line is open from Monday to Friday from 13:00 to 16:00 (UK time) on +44 20 7788 9214.
Report any threat to the police, including suspicious activity using 101 or their online reporting tools, and dial 999 in an emergency. Use platforms like Tell MAMA tellmamauk.org, MEND mend.org.uk, and The Islamophobia Response Unit theiru.org.uk to report any incidents.
For those supporting international students, our member advice line is open everyday Monday-to-Friday. 1.00pm-4.00pm. It is also available in the mornings on Tuesday and Thursday, 10.00am-12.00pm. To talk to others supporting international students about their experiences and to share yours, visit our member forum by logging in to the member area here.
We will continue to listen to international students and our members, so that we can provide or signpost to support, and advocate for action on issues that affect international students and those who work with them.
