Our training is grounded in the principles of the #WeAreInternational Student Charter, a student-led document that provides guidance on delivering an exceptional international student experience, from pre-arrival to post-graduation.

Our courses aim to provide you with the tools, skills and knowledge to implement the Charter across your work, build your career and deliver the highest level of international student experience and support on campus and beyond.

We've listened to your feedback and have adapted and expanded our training programme to offer a wider range of courses in 2024-25. Some highlights include:

  • Stop Press: Our flagship training event is now on offer in November, as well as May, so we can keep you up to date on the latest changes to the immigration rules and the guidance that follows, shortly after they are announced.  Both dates will also include updates on UKCISA’s ongoing advocacy work in liaising on policies and processes with government departments.
  • Spotlight on ‘ordinary residence’ in fee assessments: We know that there are some cases where issues around residence requirements can appear complex, and in need of careful consideration. This new workshop will allow experienced fees assessors to focus on residence requirements and explore the topic of ‘ordinary residence’ in greater depth, working through examples and discussing issues that arise from cases.
  • Skills for effective leadership: For those looking to hone their leadership style we are offering a new course for experienced staff and managers. Join Julie Allen, who has combined her knowledge of UKCISA members and their work with students, her 20+ years’ experience working in international education, and her extensive qualifications and expertise in coaching to design three highly interactive small group sessions specifically for UKCISA members.
  • If you’re new to working with international students, our new ‘Skills for new starters’ course’ will equip you with the tools to navigate your way through the early part of your career. We will also be launching new training on ‘Navigating the Office of the Immigration Services Commissioner (OISC) requirements’, which will look at ways in which you can incorporate the OISC requirements into your working practice and processes. Further details on the dates for these courses will be available soon.

UKCISA is proud of its reputation for high quality advice, guidance and training. Our training programme is relevant and responsive to the external policy context, with a team of experts from within UKCISA and its member network. UKCISA's Advice and Training team are registered with the Office of the Immigration Services Commissioner for their provision of immigration advice.

Previous attendees to our courses told us:

"It was very engaging and clear even though the topic had lots of details to cover. The hosts were very patient with our queries and took the time to ensure we fully understood the points they had made."

"It was great hearing colleagues across the sector's experiences and realising I'm not alone!"

Details of all courses are available here and can be booked here.
